Thina Sinako Regional Offices to close

Posted: 25 November 2009 | Source: PCU

The Thina Sinako Regional Offices will be closing during December 2009. Staff in those offices are currently engaged in the process of handing over assets, records and functions to the District Support Teams (DSTs) that are responsible for LED support in each of the six district municipal areas in the Province (Cacadu and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality share the same DST). Members of the DSTs have been taken through a number of training interventions, and have been engaging with members of the Thina Sinako Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) on the requirements for effective support to projects funded through this Programme.

Even though the DSTs will be providing first-line project implementation support to all projects funded through this Programme from the beginning of 2010, they will be given backup support by members of the PCU. This will include monitoring support, advice and mentorship, and mobilisation of additional technical support where required. Grant contracts management will still be managed centrally by the Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury, supported by the Thina Sinako PCU. The PCU will be phased out entirely by the end of 2011.

The Thina Sinako Provincial Local Economic Development Support Programme wishes to thank the PCU members who served in the 6 Thina Sinako Regional Offices. These Regional Fund Advisors and Regional Programme Assistants have provided valuable support in (i) the development of grant fund applications,  (ii) the implementation of projects that have received grant funding through this Programme, and (iii) the building of the DSTs in the districts in which they have been based.
