Posted: 19 March 2007 | Source: PCUFollowing completion of the evaluation process for the Local Government Support Fund pilot call for proposals, grants were awarded to the following three projects:
- Development of a Local Economic Development Strategy and related institutional arrangements, Blue Crane Route Local Municipality.
- Baseline Economic Observatory, Ukhahlamba District Municipality.
- ICT Implementation, Ukhahlamba District Municipality
Grant contracts for these grants were signed by the recipients and the Provincial Treasury on 15 March 2007, paving the way for the first grant payment.
Award of grants under the pilot calls for proposals to the Local Competitiveness Fund (LCF: CAP Identification & Design and LCF: Fast Track Project Implementation) and the Financial Innovation Fund (Window 2) is immanent, bringing to a close the pilot phases of all of the Programme's grant funds. During these phases, in which the new evaluation procedures of the European Commission were implemented in South Africa for the first time, a number of lessons were learned that will bring about speedier awarding of grants under the second call for proposals to the Local Competitiveness Fund (which will close on 22 March 2007) and the calls for proposals to the full suite of grant funds that are scheduled for launching in April 2007.
