The Thina Sinako Provincial Local Economic Development (LED) Support Programme held a Grant Award Ceremony on 23 May 2008 in Queenstown. This ceremony was organised in honour of the 52 projects with which grant contracts were signed since the previous grant awards ceremony. Key speakers at the event included the Premier of the Eastern Cape, the MEC for Economic Development & Environmental Affairs, and the Mayor of the Chris Hani District Municipality. Implementation of these projects is underway. The Thina Sinako Programme has structured its implementation support to these projects in terms of an implementation risk assessment and associated risk management actions that have been agreed with each project.
This ceremony concludes the celebration of grant contracts awarded under the first tranche of Programme funding.

The first calls for proposals under the second tranche of Programme funding will be launched on 30 May 2008. These calls will be for proposals to the Local Competitiveness Fund (CAP Identification & Design and CAP Implementation). Calls for proposals to the Local Government Support Fund and the Financial Innovation Fund will be launched later in the year.

The following amounts have been budgeted for the 2008 calls for proposals:
