Posted: 21 July 2008 | Source: PCU

The Thina Sinako Programme Steering Committee (PSC) met on Friday, 18 July 2008 to review programme progress during the second quarter of 2008. The meeting, which was chaired by the Director-General of the Province, Dr Sibongile Muthwa, deliberated on the quarterly report submitted by the Programme Coordination Unit (PCU). Progress was noted and suggestions regarding actions scheduled for the third quarter of 2008 were made. The PSC also deliberated on key elements of a strategy for the handover of responsibilities by the PCU to government officials in the key provincial partner departments and institutions. Specific preparatory actions were identified for the second half of 2008 that would allow for a well-managed handover during the course of 2009.

By the end of 2009, when the Thina Sinako Programme's Regional Offices will close and calls for proposals to European Union grants will end, district facilitation and support teams should be fully functional in each district in the Province, and resources and capacity should have been established within key provincial departments and institutions to provide a package of LED grants and other funding mechanisms that will succeed the Thina Sinako grant schemes.
