LED Learning Encounter on Sustainable Village Economies

Five LED Learning Encounters have been held by the Thina Sinako Provincial LED Support Programme to date:
- LED Learning Encounter on Cooperatives (held in Port Elizabeth on 18 September 2008)
- LED Learning Encounter on Aquaculture (held in East London on 2 October 2008)
- LED Learning Encounter on Forestry (held in Queenstown on 9 October 2008)
- LED Learning Encounter on Participatory Planning (held in Aliwal North on 14 October 2008)
- LED Learning Encounter on Community Investment Funding models (held in Mthatha on 21 October 2008)
The sixth and final LED Learning Encounter for 2008 will be held from 9am to 4pm at the Royal Hotel in Matatiele on 27 October 2008. This encounter, which will be focussed on Sustainable Village Economies will include the following speakers:
- Lonwabo Maka, of the Independent Development Trust, will speak about the IDT experience of supporting the development of sustainable village economies in the Eastern Cape.
- Clive Norton, of Sustainable Villages Africa, will speak to the following topic: The Village: Sleeping Giant.
- Prof Charlie Shackleton, of the Department of Environmental Science at Rhodes University, will speak about natural resource endowments and economic development.
